Pub Quiz

Save the date: THURSDAY, 23 April 2015, opening 18.00, start of quiz 19.00

Where: TGIFridays, Schubertring 13, 1010 Vienna

What: Pub Quiz for English Teachers

Come along and join us for a pub quiz. While Irish pubs have been doing this for a while and the quizzes have become very popular, this is the first one for TEA. So stop by and try your hand at answering all sorts of questions while networking with colleagues. This evening is all about having fun and not about showing off how much you know, but we will have prizes for the winning table and expect you to leave the event with new friends and new knowledge. So come and join us, and bring a colleague… we will have a few questions related to our profession as well as many more. Arrive at 6 p.m. if you want to order dinner, the fun starts at 7! Please register at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by 20 April so we can give appropriate numbers to the restaurant.

p.s. for those of you who are not sure exactly what a pub quiz is, go to this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pub_quiz

What We Did At Summer School 2013 - All Day English!

E-mail Print

TEA Summer School, 19-23 August 2013, Matrei am Brenner/Pfons, Tirol

What a week it was! Judging by the photos, an innocent outsider could guess the order of the day, from harmless to shocking—possibly even murder! But those must be the pictures of Ivan’s drama groups, enacting their own innovative scenes. We would be remiss not to mention the laughter and raised eyebrows in the other groups, where Candy’s spirited insights took us through a series of stimulating sessions including using advertising in the classroom, emotional intelligence, positive psychology, body language and more.

One good thing about TEA summer schools is the social life, and the advantage of staying at the venue is the evening program. The organised evenings included an entertaining slide show, drama and creative writing (more fun than it sounds!) whilst the other evenings featured various games.

Whether in the training sessions or through the social life, it would have been impossible to participate in summer school without networking and making friends. Participants from Vorarlberg to Lower Austria, from southern Carinthia to the northern reaches of Upper Austria, and even from across the border, agreed that TEA’s summer school is a special event. With five native speakers present, it was English, English, English, not only in the training but also at mealtimes and in the evenings.

Even the weather co-operated. Except for one rainy day, we were fortunate to have blue skies enhancing the lovely Tirolean landscape. Located at 1,200 meters, Bildungshaus St. Michael enjoys broad vistas and a peaceful environment amidst pastures and verdant meadows bordering conifer forests. The accommodations were superb, featuring new single rooms and excellent training facilities.

We are already looking forward to next year’s TEA summer school, scheduled for 18-22 August 2014 at the Bundesschullandheim in Saalbach, with Sally Kowanda and Eric Lomas as trainers.  Keep watching the website, the TEA Newsletter if you are a TEA member and also our Facebook page for Summer School 2014 news, as well as updates on the TEA Conference and other events throughout the year.

Aims of Tea

tea_aims

Teachers of English in Austria (TEA) is a non-profit organisation founded in 1992, run on a voluntary basis by professionals from various areas of English Language Teaching. TEA has since become a nationally and internationally acknowledged force in all matters concerning EFL and is also an IATEFL Associate. Currently TEA has approximately 600 members representing all levels and school types.

TEA organises workshops and events all over Austria and has also co-hosted international conferences (NELLE, IATEFL BESIG, IATEFL TEA-SIG, DaF). Moreover, TEA has established working relationships with Teachers' Associations all over Europe and will be involved in several 'across the border' activities. Every other year there is a summer school with renowned trainers from English-speaking countries. Information on all this as well as forthcoming events in Austria and abroad, downloadable worksheets and stop press information can be found on this website.

Please note: As  TEA is a voluntary organization - set up by teachers, for teachers - we aren't in a position to promote individual's materials/publications, assist teachers find jobs, nor help schools find teachers. We are however happy to receive information about upcoming teacher events, which can then be put on our website and placed in our monthly online members' newsletter. For teachers from abroad seeking work, we would recommend you contact the individual language schools in Austria for information about the employment status they would offer you.
