Using Advertising in your English Lessons with Candy Fresacher

This session will show English teachers how to use advertising effectively in their classrooms. Ads add variety, content, and authenticity to course work. Using radio ad texts helps students work on pronunciation and use correct grammar while also using voice color to make a spot attention getting. Print ads show hidden persuaders – or reasons to get people to buy the product - and students can try their hand at producing such ads themselves. Creative writing skills and particularly the proper use of adjectives can be trained. Watching TV ads is a fun activity. Students can analyze how the ad was effective. A storyboard would allow students to use the present and present continuous to describe the action. This session will give the teacher some prepared materials as well as resource information to effectively use each form of advertising so that students will be engaged and interested in a language session that is relevant to their world.
